Photo posted on China’s Sina Weibo shows shows that the iPhone 6 will have a much larger screen than its predecessor.*
It was only a matter of time before this happened. A photo originating from China claims to show off the front panel of Apple’s next generation iPhone.
There hasn’t been a single conflicting rumor or report regarding the iPhone 6 display size*as*almost everyone seems to believe that Apple is going to increase the display size. There hasn’t been a visual representation until today. Even if this panel is fake or simply belongs to a prototype it does offer us a glimpse of what the iPhone would look like with a larger display.

Only one photo of this purported front panel has been posted on Sina Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter. In it someone is holding a black iPhone 5S alongside the panel to show off the sheer difference in size. Obviously the authenticity of this part can not be verified and no additional information was offered alongside the picture. The Sina Weibo user who posted the image online didn’t reveal the exact size of this display panel. It’s unclear if it would have the correct 16:9 aspect ratio that all iPhones have had since the iPhone 5.
A closer look at the purported panel shows that screen bezels might be very slim in comparison with existing iPhones. That corroborates with rumors about the next generation iPhone being thinner and lighter than its predecessors. Moreover, the pill-shaped opening for ear speaker, IR proximity sensor and FaceTime camera cutouts are all present where one would expect them. This may indicate that Apple won’t be moving things around too much on the front.
Rumors suggest that this year Apple will once again launch two iPhones. Both models are expected to have different display sizes. Recent rumors claim that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will be launched first. It will presumably be followed a few months later by the 5.5-inch model.*Apple hasn’t commented on these rumors as yet and it hasn’t even hinted if we can expect larger displays in the new iPhones. The company is known for being tightlipped about its future plans and that demeanor might not change anytime soon.
